darkfall lies like a rug

2007-02-02, 10:26 | Tasos (Tasos) We really didn't think we'd ever need to explain the obvious, but sadly a few of you have been asking:

There's a pet troll/stalker we've had with us for about 3 years, the ex webmaster of a now apparently defunct MMO project, who's been sending private messages through our boards, and posting for whoever will listen, claiming that Darkfall is/was up for sale among other things. This of course, along with everything else he's been saying over the years has nothing to do with reality.

This guy has been sending us hundreds of email messages for about 3 years from his home computer, apparently unaware that hotmail reports the originating IP. The content of the emails ranges from hate mail, to spam about his game, to threats, to childish attempts at impersonating publishers, investors etc. He's also been diligently, trying to slander Darkfall on game boards, again from his home PC and using a lot of aliases.

While this has been amusing, in a village idiot kind of way, it's about time we clarified for those who are susceptible to buying into this pathology. This kind of thing has happened before, and it's extremely sad to see the ugly face of what some people think are competitive practices.

Up until now, the Darkfall official board moderation policies have been focused on allowing everyone to freely express their opinions about the game. This is in sharp contrast to most other MMO communities which are very strongly moderated. This freedom however has been taken for granted and taken advantage of by a few people. I'm afraid that we'll consider suggesting stronger moderation of the boards if this trend continues.

Late last year thrones was approached by a few different companies wanting to purchase a mmog. One of them was Red Bull (the soft drink company) and that is how the information about a Darkfall sale was leaked. Basically in one of the phone conferences with the Vice President of Red bull , he stated that they looked over a few different games for possible purchase and Darkfall was one of them. He also said that when the company making df found out they were not interested in purchasing anymore and were going to move in a different direction with something else they sent him emails lowering the buyout price and trying to change his mind but there was no longer interest. The asking price he mentioned for df was first 2 million , than they dropped it to 1 million. Why did the sale not happen? He basically said that it wasn't up to par for a purchase for whatever reasons.

Of course nothing less than a public denial of any type of sale from the producer of the project was expected , as any mention of a sale would have the fanbase crumble overnight as fast as Dark and Light after the release of SoG.

Take this for what it is - a post by someone on the internet. However , I know it to be reality.

Now Redbull is involved with Project Offset it seems which is a very good move as that project looks amazing. They recently threw them a party at GDC.

Hi kakak, or whatever nick you use lately.

What happened to your shitty game called Throne of Chaos/Realms of Torment/whatever the fuck name it was ?

Take this for what it is - a post by someone on the internet. However , I know it to be reality.

hahah, yeah, I read something on the internet a few days ago about pigs flying. I don't know about you, but I know its real

The reason I didn't delete this thread is to see everyone who checks these forums from time to time to see what kind of bullshit you can come up with. Especially those who know how long you've been pestering Darkfall fansites with these posts.

Your main argument of darkfall being vapourware is contradicted with 2 things:

1. You were the webmaster of the biggest vapour ever to have entered the intertubes

2. You have been posting shit for more than 2 years about this game. Its funny how much time you waste on a game that apparently doesn't exist

Btw, for anyone reading this, in the f13.net forum thread, the guy that posted that Red Bull shit is the same guy that posted this thread :P

"what kind of bullshit you can come up with."

this isn't bullshit IMO. and its actually pretty smart move to try and sell it.

No clue what your talking about. kaka?

Now the defense that this darkfall producer comes up with is pretty weak by saying that a "competitor" made this up BECAUSE a company that is selling and sold off a product is NOT a competitor. It is looking to EXIT the market , not compete in it and has no reason to lie about stuff like this cause it doesn't gain anything from it. Commen sense wins out here. now on the toher hand when the age of conan developer was talking nasty about DF , the argument for "competitor" could hold up there.. but not in this case. somethin that was sold is not competition.

darkfall lies like a rug plain and simple in my personal opinion. and who would actually admit they tried selling the game in the first place when it didn't sell off after All?

"What happened to your shitty game called Throne of Chaos/Realms of Torment/whatever the fuck name it was ?"

i dont own games but last i read months ago on mmorpgcom that game was sold to either redBull or some other companies. did ya read the quote? then people were psotin links to this there

Don't act like a fool, you are the exact same guy that's been posting shit the df community for years. One of your account names on the Unofficial Darkfall forums was kakak, remember ? :D

Where did the darkfall producer come up with a defense ? He just said you are an annoying guy that has nothing better to do than post shit about a MMO game that will never get released

edit: howcome you don't have any friends on there ?

nah i was just googlin shit about DF and i came across the Ageof conan thing in dev tracker section of this site. then i was scrolling down reading the other stuff and saw that post tasos made about that sale thing. so i posted the response i found to it on f13 forums.. and sorry but it does kinda make sense to me.

you think just because this tasos dude says it isn't true than its automatically untrue? c'mon wake up.

Where did the darkfall producer come up with a defense ?

right when he said this:

"and it's extremely sad to see the ugly face of what some people think are competitive practices."

a game that was sold aint competition and isn't interested in 'competitive practices'. its just sayin what you know or knew. theres nothing to gain from it. lots of emplyees let shit like this leak out when they're not workin for companies no more. specially when they probably play games and follow them themselves and know more then everyone else does.

Yea right... dude, you registered just to post this. I also have your IP, and I'll ask one of the darkfall devs to compare it with the emails they've been getting from you.

He also said " what some people think are competitive practices", he didn't call it competitive, and you defending the troll in this way just proves you are him. You also seem to know a shitload about people looking to buy indie MMOs (Darkfall and ToC)

Anyway, until I find out about this from actual sources, I won't consider it being real

what sources? lol you think the dF devs are going to admit it even it was real? they woudnt.

im off to play woW until games like war and AoC actually come out. at least you can bet those WILL be out.  ;/

I wasn't talking about the darkfall devs, they wouldn't tell me that stuff. But apparently, there are other sources other than Aventurine itself
